How the chick hatches

The chicks vary in colour according to the different breeds.

Generally speaking, yellow chicks grow into white adults, striped ones grow into marked adults, blackish ones into black adults.

The chicks are virtually self-sufficient at day old. The hen provides them with warmth and protection. Chicks reared artificially display exactly the same instincts as those reared naturally by a hen and begin to feed and water themselves at day old, without being taught.... and they say chickens are stupid!
