How the chick forms

The development of a chick is an amazing feat of nature.

In mammals, the developing baby is protected within the mother's body and then born and nurtured to maturity. However, a chick develops inside a hard egg shell, completely separate from (but warmed by) its mother then has to give birth to itself and be relatively self-sufficient.
